Developing Activity Tourism in Europe

Grundtvig Partnerships Project No: 2009-1-GB2-GRU06-01466

Developing Activity Tourism in Europe (DATE) is a European project funded by the Grundtvig Lifelong Learning Partnership programme.

Activity Tourism (AT) is in its formation and currently is ill defined, although many activities currently take place across Europe and often in rurally disadvantaged areas. A lot of current AT learning occurs during informal and non-formal learning scenarios and is therefore not recognised or accredited.

What's involved?

The project involves 5 partners from Scotland, Spain, Malta, The Netherlands and Romania. The project will lead the partners to reach a consensus regarding a definition of Activity Tourism and provide partners with a baseline understanding of Activity Tourism in partner States. Issues to be addressed include gaining an overview of the qualifications currently available in partner countries, as well as identifying opportunities in each Member State and the potential for any Inter-European co-operation to develop a European recognised qualification.

Objetives

To examine Activity Tourism (AT) in Europe and develop a common understanding of what constitutes AT in each State.

To compare current adult education provision in AT in each partner's State.

To develop models for modern innovative curricula in AT.

To organise mobilities and activities for staff and adult learners to experience AT in other European States

To raise the level of inter-European co-operation opportunities and awarene

Who's it for?

The main project activities involve the mobilisation of key staff in partner organisations to explore activity tourism and its impacts in each partner State and to examine best current practices. The project will involve adult learners in the project's activities in their home States, and will also involve social partners, small to medium sized enterprises, national agencies and private employers.

The focus of these qualifications and training will be for:

  • Adults over the age of 25 and young people who are not still in compulsory education
  • Adult learners in the project's activities in their home States
  • Social partners
  • Small to medium sized enterprises
  • National agencies and private employers.

What's next?

The outcomes will inform the partnership and wider audiences about:

The need to train new employees in the activity tourism workforce in partner States

The industry requirements for training in terms of continuing professional development.

Partners:

  • Oatridge College in Scotland
  • Lawton School in Spain
  • Xgrant BV in The Netherlands
  • Innovaxin International in Malta
  • The Stefan Procopiu Association in Romania

Co-financed:

The project is co-financed by the European Union Lifelong Learning Programme.
