Objective:

The Eurochance II Project, online English, German, Spanish and Italian courses for the blind and visually impaired, is a follow-up project to Eurochance I, which within the framework of the European Leonardo da Vinci Programme, aims to widen the range of language study materials for the blind and visually impaired, first by extending the range of languages into which the existing Intermediate English and German courses are localised and making them available to visually impaired speakers of French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian and secondly by transferring and adapting the content of the Eurochance I courses in order to create Spanish and Italian courses. Thirdly the project will provide tutorial support for learners, by adding to the platform the required features within the framework of accessibility and usability for the visually impaired.

The overall aim of the project is to improve access of the visually impaired to language training possibilities, to improve the quality of vocational and language training and support, and the interest of visually impaired people in further education.

Each of the five partners in the project has a specific role. Brailcom (Czech Republic), the project coordinator, is responsible for programming of the project software. Lawton School’s role is the development of the Spanish and Italian modules, and the methodology and study plans for tutors. MEDIA LT (Norway) is responsible for the evaluation of the project content and platform from the point of view of blind users. TK Formazione (Italy) is responsible for project dissemination, and the Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union (Slovakia) will manage the whole evaluation process. The duration of the project is from 01.11.2007 to 31.10.2009

• Online vocational Spanish, Italian, English and German Intermediate courses for blind and visually impaired users available in English, German, Czech, Slovak, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, French, Hungarian and Polish.
  
• Advanced level Spanish, Italian, English and German Courses.
• Methodology and study plans for tutors of on line language courses targeted at blind and visually impaired learners.
• Special software adapted to the needs of the blind and visually impaired.
